London Entrepreneurs' Challenge 2003/4Last updated 5 October 2005 The competition winner for 2003/4 was GreenPoint Polymer, a team led by Clarke Simmons, a member of the Sloan programme at the London Business School. GreenPoint planned to produce commodity plastic resin pellets from otherwise wastefully flared oilfield gas. Having won the competition, Clarke took his idea to a number of global oil and petro-chemical firms. Several were interested in the idea and he held more detailed discussions with BP, among others. Feedback from BP led Clarke to conclude that significant obstacles existed but BP remained sufficiently interested to offer him a job where his role included working on his idea from inside the company! Clarke said, "The Entrepreneurs' Challenge was great. It connected me with people and opportunities outside London Business School - it was a great start!" |
